I'll have to say that I have never heard of mashed potato sandwiches. Now I have to try them. 😉

I can't say I ever had them anywhere else. They may have been a product of frugality with food, but I sure did like them.

This is a beautiful recollection. Reminds me of my own memories, sitting beside my grandmother as she watched her tele-novas on the television. We didn’t have to say a word to each other but unconditional love always filled the room.

Those type of memories are my favorite.

Oh my gosh! Just like Dagwood. I had no idea anyone ate those sandwiches! Love the story!

I read that comic, but in my mind he was eating submarine sandwiches. He certainly always had a sandwich going.

You’re probably right. It must be another comic that she always fixed him mash potato sandwiches. I thought that was so weird! But I bet it was good!

It would be fun to know which comic had the mashed potato sandwiches and see what time period it was written for. It certainly is a recipe from the past.

It was Priscilla's Pop - Waldo. "A constant theme of the strip was Waldo's lunch, which consisted of eating mashed potato sandwiches to save money until the mortgage was paid," per Wikipedia

The rolled edges in salt and parsley sound like a grand idea to adorn sandwich. Never hear of mash potatoes sandwiches, but you have peaked my interest. Perhaps I’ll have to try them.

I've never seen them anywhere else either. I don't know if they were Irma's creation or if perhaps her mother made them and she carried it on.

For me sitting on the porch swinging holds more attraction than the sandwiches. It sounds quite idyllic. I am not at all sure I could handle mashed potato sandwiches!

The swinging was the main attraction, but the sandwiches were part of the memory. I think the sandwiches might be one of those things that kids grow up with so it's normal. It was a family thing.

Mash potato sandwich? I just made a big pot of them yesterday and now I might have to try one for lunch! 🥪

I hope it turns out well! Irma was generous with the butter in her mashed potatoes and the combination on the sandwich worked great.
