Oh I am so happy you shared this sweet memory and story! I love that you made the biscuits too!
Also yes, what’s up with how difficult it is these days to pop open a can of biscuits!?! I blame it on the altitude here but I guess it must just be the way they’re made ?
They just don't pop open as easily as they used to. I'm no packaging expert, but it looks like the layers of cardboard, label, and inner lining often don't line up like they're supposed to so you get that satisfying POP. More of a pry, twist, and ooze.
I can’t think of canned biscuits without laughing about the urban myth that circulated decades ago about the woman who went grocery shopping, left her groceries in the hot car too long and thought she’d been shot in the head when a can of biscuits exploded, sending biscuit dough all down the back of her head 😬🤣
I remember that! I can see how they'd think that. Maybe I will test and rate a few different brands of canned biscuits on their "poppability." It's just not the same if I have to cut open the can.
They were pretty darned good. I'm sure mom and grandma bought these at Sears which is part of the product info etched on the bottom. It heats up quickly so it's nice to use for small things rather than waiting for a full-sized oven to heat.
Right, I end up mangling the biscuit dough in the process. I can attest to the fact that trying to reshape them does not necessarily turn out well, lol.
I have never seen a small oven like this. Very cool! Those pop open biscuit containers? I startle every time even when I am the one trying to open it. 😂

True. So much packaging!

That is something I've never seen before.
We all miss our grandma's cooking.
Great memories from the past.
Biscuits look soo good...
Cynthia, I have never seen a little oven like that. So cute! Great memories and your biscuits look yummy!

What a wonderful memory!
My grandpa loved biscuits so they were made often. So glad to be using this again.
A wonderful read.
Memories can come from anything including home appliances.
That's true, I recalled so many different things centered around using this oven.
Very cute, Cynthia. I'm right with you in digging out directions from the trash and dang-near using a hacksaw to open those cans. :)

Same! You never know when it will open.
That oven!!! So cute!
My mother always made the canned version - and I remember smacking them on the counter for her.
I couldn't help notice that the oven is a Kenmore. I'm not surprised that it still works.
