North St. Louis was overwhelmingly German immigrants in 1874. Today it is a blighted area and almost exclusively black population.

My line was originally from Cambridge, England. I grew up in a city of German immigrants in southern Indiana. It is still populated with a large descendent population of those initial groups. This family line left St. Louis in the coming years and expanded their 'goings-on' elsewhere. That will be covered in the upcoming posts.

The severe bank panic in 1873 led to a really bad year economically, in 1874 St. Louis. A lot of bad stuff went down that year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panic_of_1873
